Budgies / Parakeets

The word parakeet actually describes any small parrot-like bird with a long tail, and yes that includes budgies.

With over 120 recognized types of parakeets, you can find them in a huge range of colors and sizes.

Budgies, or parakeets,  like all pet birds, need to have a cage big enough for them to stretch and flap their wings without hitting their walls

Generally the bigger the the cage the better.

Healthy parakeets are active birds, and want plenty of room for climbing around, flapping and playing.

Access to fresh food and water must be available at all times.

Parakeet mixes usually contain seeds, or pellets, but fruits and vegetables should also be offered to budgies or parakeets as tasty nutritious treats.

Cuttlebone is important another item your bird will enjoy,

Cuttlebone is the skeleton of the squid-like cuttlefish and contains calcium and other minerals important to the health of your bird

Parakeets or budgies, are intelligent, social birds and like lots of attention.

Many can be taught to talk, and to do some really neat little tricks.

Easy to care for and offering plenty of affection and entertainment, budgies or parakeets can be the ideal pet for apartment dwellers or as companions for older people.
